The Human Being -
  a Holistic Approach
Our Teeth -
    mirror our soul!

With holistic orthodontics, the emphasis is not solely on the mechanical process of aligning the teeth.

Holistic orthodontics focuses on identifying and healing root causes.

Comprehensive, thorough diagnostics are therefore a prerequisite for successful, stable orthodontic treatment.

Early diagnosis of disorders and corresponding early treatment promote the healthy development of the teeth, jaws and organism as a whole.
Our mouth is also a respiratory organ...
Today, nearly everyone knows that straight, uniform teeth are important for more than just a beautiful smile - they are equally important for intact functioning of biting and chewing to properly digest our food.

But what hardly anyone realizes is that our mouth is also a part of our respiratory system. The mouth's compensating function to support breathing, e.g., by ensuring that we get enough oxygen during strenuous physical exertion, is vital to our life.
In other words, the mouth plays a tremendously vital role for the basic functioning of our breathing.

A well functioning respiratory system is the basis for supplying our cells with sufficient oxygen, which affects all of our organs as well as our ability to concentrate.
Unfortunately, respiratory disorders are virtually the most common and at the same time least recognized causes of other diseases and disorders.
Changes in the alignment of our teeth and jaws
affect the posture of our entire body!
Our body's posture is another important aspect. If asymmetries of the body's statics are not taken into account during treatment planning, then this can have far-reaching consequences later on.

Do a little experiment on yourself!
Take your shoes off and stand up straight but relaxed, open your mouth wide - then close it again slowly.
Notice while doing this, which of your teeth come into contact first. Now put something under one foot (a small pile of magazines or a thin book), stand relaxed again and repeat the experiment.

Nearly everybody will discover that now other teeth come into contact first! A change in the body's posture leads to a change in how the teeth align!

This also works exactly the other way around! A change in how the teeth align has an affect on the posture of the entire body!
Another aspect in conjunction with our mouth and teeth is what we eat.

We should choose the foods we eat not only to fill our mouths and stomachs, but also to fulfill the needs of our souls.

Our mouth craves for more than just sufficient sustenance to stay alive. We want to enjoy our lives and nurture ourselves, and we eat for more reasons than just to fill our stomachs.
As the saying goes: "You are what you eat!"
The mouth should therefore provide balanced functioning for breathing, eating and movement.

As early as at the mother's breast, it is easy to recognize that breathing, sucking and swallowing are interdependent actions finely attuned to each other. A problem with just one of these three basic functions leads inevitably to problems with the others.

One typical example is the open mouth posture, which can be accompanied by symptoms such as weakening or changes in the shapes and positions of the muscles of the lips, tongue and chewing apparatus. This can lead to both minor and major problems with all functions of the mouth such as breathing, sucking, chewing, swallowing, speaking and mimic gestures.

The shifted interplay of the forces of the surrounding muscles and soft parts can also disrupt the normal development of the jaw shape and harmonious alignment and intermeshing of both rows of teeth.

Even breast feeding too seldom can be the beginning of a chain of problems:

A lack of sucking activity can weaken the muscles of the mouth and hinder the forward development of the jaw and development of lip contact. Breathing through the mouth is a logical consequence.

Less breast feeding can also lead to less efficient digestion and consequently inefficient utilization of nutrients. Since untrained mouth muscles are usually not able to chew effectively, the ground may have already been laid for the widespread stomach and intestinal disorders and diseases.

The result can be a weakened immune system - and without a healthy defense, the possibility of infections increases thus completing the vicious circle.
In summary:
As with all basic principles of the universe, a holistic treatment approach should be based on the harmonious interaction of breathing, eating and movement.
